frequency effect
Phenomenon that a linguistic unit (e.g. a word) which is used more often than another unit of the same type and which is comparable word in terms of length etc. is recognised more rapidly and more accurately.

Example:
dog and ewe are both three letters long but dog is more easily recognised because it is a more frequent word.
