double dissociation
When two patients (or patient groups) show different patterns of ability such that one can do task A but not task B and the other can do B but not A. Often linked to physical separation of tasks in different brain areas.

Example:
Broca's aphasics can find words but have difficulty constructing grammatical sentences, while Wernicke's can build sentences but have word-finding difficulties.
