Visual sentence processing

The first two demonstrations present sentences incrementally on the screen, one word at a time.

Self-paced reading In this task you press a key to see the next word in a sentence and the time taken to press the key is measured and used as an indicator of processing load at that point in the sentence.

Self-paced reading with anomaly detection In this task you also press a key to see the next word in a sentence. In addition, however, you have to press a different key as soon as the sentence stops making sense.

Spoken sentence processing

The next two demonstrations involve different ways of measuring the processing of a spoken sentence.

Before you begin ensure you have sound working:

Word monitoring In this task you listen for a target word in a sentence.

Cross-modal priming An auditory prime stimulus is presented, followed or accompanied by a visual target for lexical decision
