Possible Word Constraint Ensures that the speech input is exhaustively segmented into words without leaving any residual sounds.
Example:It is more difficult for English listeners to detect the real word "see" when they hear the nonsense word /siʃ/ than when they hear the nonsense word /siʃʌb/ because the residue "sh" in the first case is not a possible word of English, but the residue "shub" in the second case is a possible word.
