slots-and-fillers
Account of language production that says that first a frame is developed at some level of processing and then relevant items are slotted into the frame.

Example:
In the lexical insertion stage of production, the speaker might want to talk about dog, chase and cat and have the frame 'The N Ved the N'. The slots (shown by N for noun and V for verb) received the fillers dog, chase and cat.
