global ambiguity An ambiguity that is not resolved within the sentence. Also known as standing ambiguity. Contrast local ambiguity.
Example:The spy watched the man with the binoculars. This is a global ambigiuty because without further information it is not clear who holds the binoculars - the spy or the man.
