local ambiguity Ambiguity where the meaning is made clear later in the same utterance or sentence (also known as temporary ambiguity). Contrast global ambiguity.
Example:In While John was reading the book fell off his lap the local ambiguity is whether the book is an explicit direct object of reading. This gets resolved by fell off his lap.
